Let the Research Begin!

Now that everyone has been assigned a group with specific topics, students can really focus on their research. Stress the importance of synthesizing and only pulling out the important facts. There are a lot of resources in the links on the sidebar. Please direct the students to these links as well as the videos on SAFARI Montage for their research. Students can safely save pictures for free by clicking on the picture links under Quick Links in the sidebar or by searching in the Visual Dictionary on SAFARI Montage (located in the search tab). I've embedded a video that a student created in Spanish about Biomes. If you would like, show the video to your students and discuss the elements of the video. What did they like about it? What did they dislike? How can it be improved? Which elements will they use or not use for their own videos?

The Projects Have Been Chosen!

Everyone has chosen projects, and we are ready to start the beginning activites to activate students' prior knowledge. On the right sidebar you will find a list of Quick Links that may be useful for everyone and links under each teachers' name that are more specific to individual projects. Here are the projects and essential questions each teacher has chosen:

Ms. Santos--Activity #5: Cries From Endangered Species/How can we use poetry to express our concern for animals facing extinction?

Ms. Zayas--Activity #3: Everything’s Connected/How does losing one species affect the components of an ecosystem?

Mr. Vasquez--Activity #1: Advertise the Environment/How can we persuade people to help protect and preserve the world’s biomes?

Ms. Temprano--Activity #6: Is Air Pollution Destroying Our Cities?/How does air pollution affect our health and the health of an ecosystem?

Welcome!

Welcome to the PS/IS 18 Project Page! You will find important updates and resources for your projects. The first step in this process is for you to choose a project. Once you have chosen your project, we will follow the 4 stages of project-based learning to complete the project:

1. Planning--choosing a project, introducing it to students, and forming cooperative learining groups
2. Gathering--conducting research
3. Building--creating a multi-media presentation
4. Presenting--showcasing student work

Here is the schedule for my visits to your school:
1st Visit = February 24-25: Planning
2nd Visit = March 16, 18, 20: Gathering
3rd Visit = March 31, April 2: Building
4th Visit = May 5-7:
Presenting

We will discuss detailed schedules after you have chosen your projects. Happy planning!
